Some colored gemstones, including ruby and emerald, have seen a recent hike in price despite Europe’s current debt crisis, International Colored Gemstone Association (ICA) President Wilson Yuen said at the first Jewellery News Asia (JNA) Chinese online conference on Aug. 23.

“The colored gemstone market has witnessed larger demand,” Yuen said. “People value to rarity of gems that take thousands of years to form and decided to invest on them. The price of gems is heading to a positive direction Vampire diaries  ring . Among all those countries, China is a huge market with full potential.”

China’s colored gemstone market has been developing in the past few years, the ICGA said. Research from the Gems & Jewelry Trade Association of China reported that the sales figure of jewelry and gems reached $45 billion in 2011, up 20 percent from 2010.

Yuen emphasized the need to continue demand in the category. “We need to promote the image of colored gemstone as something a family will keep for generations,” he said. Hunger Games Mockingjay Necklace

Speakers at the JNA Chinese online conference also emphasized the need for proper education to further the Chinese jewelry and gems market.

“Based on our 50-year laboratory experience, we find out (approximately) $23,744 is the line that separates the people buying the gems as investments from the ones treating the gem as some sort of accessory,” Jaye Cha, assistant general manager of CAC Gems Laboratory, Ltd. and a guest speaker at the conference, said. “When people purchase gems that are worth over $23,744, they are more likely to pay special attention to its value and SUPERNATURAL  Ring, origins and post-treatment.”

The event was the first Chinese online forum featuring the latest developments in China’s colored gemstone market. Its aim is to provide a platform for successful practitioners in the colored gemstone industry to share their experience in developing the Greater China market, Christie Dang, moderator of the conference and publisher/editor of JNA, said.

“One good thing about this online conference is the real time feedback,” Dang said. “This format of discussion should be practiced more in the future.”
